Local Sutherland fights back against cancer

There’s so much quiet courage in this community that most of it goes unnoticed. Take the story of Robert Sutherland, for example.

Sutherland graduated from Green Valley High in 2003 and appeared headed for success as a freshman at Utah State.

But in the spring of his first year of college, he was diagnosed with cancer. Instead of sitting back and feeling victimized by the cruelty of the disease, he fought back. There was surgery in Indiana, and radiation and chemotherapy in Salt Lake City. The cancer and treatment played havoc with his blood, but he refuses to quit.

Sure, he’s lost his hair, but he hasn’t lost his courageous spirit. He has a lot of admirers these days.
