Long-time friends meet again at the Cottages of Green Valley

When Nancy Campbell moved into the Cottages of Green Valley, an assisted and memory-care community at 2620 Robindale Road, in Henderson, Campbell discovered long-time friend Othena Williams also was living within the community.

A resident of Southern Nevada since 1952, Campbell had had lost touch with Williams over the years. The two spotted one another in the community's activity center, Rose Hall, during one of the Cottages at Green Valley's many events.

The activities offered at the Cottages have managed to bring old and new friends together, Campbell said.

"Activities are an important part of my day and the days of most of the other residents," the former kindergarten teacher said.

"Our activities ladies are the best. Music and Bible study are two of my favorites. I also listen to Bible story CDs in my own apartment daily. It's nice to be able to meet with so many other residents but to also have some quiet time to myself," Campbell said.

Campbell also has a special group of friends who come to visit. Her sorority sisters from Alpha Delta Kappa Fidelis Beta Chapter of Retired Teachers stop by about every other week.

The group participates with Campbell in activities at the Cottages and especially enjoy the arts and crafts in addition to entertainment showcased several times a week.

As a special tribute to their friend and to thank the staff, the sorority recently made a sizeable contribution.

"Nancy and her friends chose the perfect time for this gift," Victoria Adams, activities director, said.

Each individual cottage houses 12 residents and each resident is provided three meals a day in a family style setting.

Residents average 831/2 years of age.

The community opened in 2002 and has five memory-care cottages, three assisted and one Easy Care independent-style cottage.

For more information, visit Cottages of Green Valley from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Scheduled evening tours are available by calling 992-0000. Additional information is also available at cottagesgv.com.
