Love for Leif Enger

Last year, I discovered a new favorite author: Leif Enger. I had read some buzz about him on Amazon and picked up “Peace Like a River.” I guess I discovered the book a little later than most, but what a wonderful read.
The story is set in 1960s Minnesota and centers around 11-year-old Reuben Land and his family. Reuben’s brother, Davy, finds himself in trouble with the law and on the run. The remaining family, Reuben, younger sister Swede, and their widowed father, pack up and hit the trail to find Davy.
The characters are so well-drawn I was hooked from the beginning. The younger sister steals the show at times, but the book is filled with endearing characters. The writing is like poetry, except that I understand and like it.
And now, just when I think I might want to reread “Peace,” comes a new one from Enger, “So Brave, Young and Handsome.”
I haven’t read this one yet because it just came out, but it is next on my list. From what I gather, this one is set in 1915 Minnesota and features a train robber and a failed novelist. I don’t think I would have normally picked this one up because it sounds so much like a Western, but after reading “Peace,” I’m going to give it a try.
