LV Chamber endorses Sandoval for governor

The Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday announced it would support former federal judge Brian Sandoval for the job held by incumbent Republican Gov. Jim Gibbons, who is running for re-election.

In 2006 the chamber endorsed Gibbons.

Hugh Anderson, chairman of the chamber's government affairs committee explained the reasoning for going with Sandoval. "The Chamber believes that Brian Sandoval will bring strong and collaborative leadership to the office of governor, and will be able to work with legislators, the business community, as well as other constituents to effectively address the needs of Nevada during this particularly critical time in our history," Anderson wrote in a statement announcing the endorsement.

The chamber reported the government affairs committee met with four leading candidates for governor, a group that includes Sandoval, Gibbons, former North Las Vegas Mayor Mike Montandon on the Republican side and Democrat Rory Reid, currently chairman of the Clark County Commission.
