LV Sands: The Sudden Importance of Bethlehem Casino Project

Las Vegas Sands opens the scaled-down Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem
this week, and residents of the Lehigh Valley have been looking
forward to the expected economic boost.

But what Matt Assad of the Morning Call of Allentown, Pa., reports
is so true: The struggling Sands corporation needs the Bethlehem
project now more than ever.

He writes, “When it was proposed more than four years ago, the
casino project seemed less important to the world's largest casino
company. Las Vegas Sands was beginning a $17 billion building spree to
construct as many as nine resorts in Asia, and its charismatic owner,
Sheldon Adelson, had made himself into one of the world's richest men.

“Analysts viewed Bethlehem as an afterthought.

  “Not any more.”
