MacDonald awakens ‘Sleeping Dragon’
March 15, 2008 - 9:00 pm
Construction of Dragon's Glen has been started as MacDonald Highlands begins to ascend into the mountainsides with new phases of its development.
"Reminiscent of the winding roads and hidden valleys of Coldwater, Topanga and Laurel canyons in California is our new phase of custom lots," said Rich MacDonald, developer of MacDonald Highlands in Henderson. "Dragon's Glen offers tremendous elevation changes for prospective buyers looking for that rare and unusual setting.
"The topography of this canyon will enable architects to incorporate stunning views into the design of each custom home. We encourage prospective buyers to visit our information center to view photography, artist renderings and scaled models of custom homes designed for hillsides such as Dragon's Glen," he said.
Sequestered behind its own privacy gates with an oasis-theme entry and surrounded by rock outcroppings, Dragon's Glen offers sites that are tucked away in hidden canyons, perched on hilltops or terraced on ridge lines. Resting above these custom home sites lays the "Sleeping Dragon," a rock formation positioned so that prosperous energy casts good luck and success over the entire neighborhood. The custom lots range from .55 acres to more than 2-acre parcels and are priced starting at $500,000.
"The average lot in Dragon's Glen is an acre in size," MacDonald said. "We hope our new buyers will recognize the value we are creating when we structured our pricing for lots of this magnitude."
DragonRidge Country Club is MacDonald Highlands' main highlight. This secluded 18-hole course with its fairways, greens and tee boxes was sculpted and carved by famed designers Jay Moorish and David Druzisky who placed the golf course back into the canyons utilizing elevation changes throughout.
The clubhouse, built of stone and glass, features a steak house overlooking the Las Vegas Strip, two mixed grills and lounges, fitness center, swimming pool, children's pool and an extensive golf pro shop.
Private golf membership is limited, giving members and their guests a choice of tee times.
A complimentary social membership to the country club is provided to lot owners upon application approval, MacDonald said.
The community has four custom-home neighborhoods under development with custom lots.
Each neighborhood features its own distinct topography and views. Buyers can choose from a variety of terrains including flat golf frontage, multi-level pads or hillside elevations with views of the golf course, mountain range or panoramic views of the Las Vegas skyline.
These custom lots range in size from one-half acre to more than 21/2 acres.
The information center is located at 1730 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway. To visit, take Interstate 215, the Las Vegas Beltway, traveling east and exit at Valle Verde Drive. Go south to the corner of Valle Verde Drive and Horizon Ridge Parkway.
The office is open daily. For more information or to schedule a private tour of MacDonald Highlands, call 614-9100.
