MacDonald Highlands continues development, adds golf amenities

MacDonald Highlands in the southeastern Las Vegas Valley is forging ahead with its growth plans for the development.

With an estimated $160 million worth of new home construction and community enhancements under way within MacDonald Highlands, the developer is now releasing a limited number of golf frontage lots starting from just over $1 million, as well as elevated compound lots valued up to $6 million per home site.

At the same time, DragonRidge Country Club, the centerpiece of MacDonald Highlands, is set to expand its offerings with the soon-to-open Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf, the first of its kind in Nevada. Construction is under way on the academy and it is expected to open early next year.

McDonald Highlands, a 1,200-acre hillside planned community, features custom home sites with panoramic Strip and mountain views.

Prospective residents can choose from various terrains, including a few golf frontage sites, multi-level pads or hillside elevations with views of the McCullough Mountains or the Las Vegas city skyline.

Custom lots range from one-third acre to 21/2-acre parcels. Prices range from $700,000 to more than $6 million.

Loyal to its intrinsic surroundings, MacDonald Highlands goes to great lengths to maintain the beauty of the natural canyons and preserved rock formations blended throughout the community, allowing residents to enjoy the magnificence of the desert mountain landscape.

"Preserving the natural beauty of our land is essential in creating a community that feels like it's a world away, but is really so conveniently located," said Rich MacDonald, MacDonald Highlands developer. "I consider this hillside land to be extremely precious and have worked for many years to enhance the vegetation throughout the community while also maintaining the natural topography that makes this setting so dramatic."

Tucked within MacDonald Highlands is the private championship DragonRidge Golf Course, which takes advantage of the community's elevations and mountainous surroundings.

With wide fairways, large greens and at least four tees on each hole, the 18-hole, 72-par course was designed to keep the game interesting and challenging for players of all skill levels.

In addition to the new Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf, the DragonRidge Country Club will unveil a 14,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art fitness facility in spring 2009.

The center will feature 4,500 square feet of work-out area, five championship tennis courts -- one with stadium viewing -- as well as three fitness studios, outdoor basketball and volleyball courts and a park.

The MacDonald Highlands information center is located at 1730 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway.

To visit, take Interstate 215, the Las Vegas Beltway, east to Valle Verde and travel south to the corner of Valle Verde and Horizon Ridge Parkway.

The office is open seven days a week. For more information or to schedule a private tour of MacDonald Highlands' luxury community call 614-9100 or visit macdonaldhighlands.com.
