MacDonald Highlands hosts tournament

DragonRidge Country Club, the private golf course within the luxury community of MacDonald Highlands, hosted its 2007 Men's Member/Guest Golf Tournament Oct. 25-28. It was the first major tournament held at DragonRidge since the course went private in November 2006.

The tournament opened on a Thursday night with a putting contest, while Friday evening brought a horseracing activity. There were nine daily contests along with opportunities to win vehicles for a hole in one.

After three days of competitive golf, the players wrapped up the tournament with a Saturday night steak and lobster dinner and dancing in the clubhouse ballroom. The tournament was won by DragonRidge member Leo Gispanski and his guest, son Thomas Gispanski.

DragonRidge Country Club was recently voted 2007 best golf-course community by VegasGolfer magazine. Named after a rocky ridge known to residents as the "sleeping dragon," the 18-hole championship course has a reputation for being one of the best golf courses in the Southwest. It played host to the first two Tiger Jam charity golf events and the Wendy's Three Tour Challenge.

The clubhouse of DragonRidge is an award-winning design of stone and glass featuring a gourmet dining room overlooking the Las Vegas skyline. The clubhouse offers two grills and lounges, fitness facility, swimming pool and pro shop. A 10,000-square-foot ballroom was recently added to the clubhouse.

A complimentary social membership to the country club is provided to homeowners upon application approval, according to the builder. Different packages are available, including golf, sport, corporate and social memberships, for residents and nonresidents of MacDonald Highlands.

In addition to DragonRidge, the MacDonald Highlands master plan includes three neighborhood parks encompassing about 10 acres that will feature tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, playgrounds and picnic facilities. MacDonald Highlands is also planning five miles of fitness trails that will meander through the community, providing access to nature trails that lead into the surrounding mountainside.

Currently, MacDonald Highlands has four custom-home neighborhoods under development with home sites that provide city and mountain views, as well as views of DragonRidge Country Club. Prospective buyers can choose from parcels measuring from one-half acre to more than 2 acres.

Palisades, Lairmont, Dragon Gate and Stone Mountain Ridge each offer a variety of custom-home sites with prices starting at $850,000. Luxury homes within MacDonald Highlands start at $1.4 million and offer hillside or golf locations.

To visit the information center at 1730 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway, take Inerstate 215, the Las Vegas Beltway, east to Valle Verde Drive and travel south to the corner of Valle Verde and Horizon Ridge. The sales center is open seven days a week.
