Macomber revisits Blossom Street with ‘Turn in the Road’

Just when you think you finally have your life figured out, karma has a crazy way of turning everything upside down.

Bethann Hamlin, who owns her own company, is creative and successful, but when her ex-husband Grant tells her he’d like to come back, well, Bethann just doesn’t know quite what to think of it all. Her daughter Annie and Grant’s mother, Ruth, are all for the reconciliation, but her son Andrew, who never quite forgave his father for leaving them six years ago, is not so gung-ho.

So when Ruth mentions that she is about to embark on a cross-country trip to Florida to attend her high school reunion, Bethann jumps at the chance to get away from all the stress and offers to drive. And when Annie decides to join them after her own relationship goes sour, the trip turns into a multigenerational adventure.

In Debbie Macomber’s latest book, “A Turn in the Road,” the author once again takes her readers back to visit the gang on Blossom Street, where friends are dear, adventures many and romance is always in the air.

Bethann hopes to reach a decision on whether to take Grant back and goes with the flow as Ruth and Annie adjust and readjust the original route from Seattle to Florida. As Ruth reconnects with friends of long ago and Annie licks her emotional wounds, Bethann wrestles with her dilemma. Although she and Grant have a 20-year marriage history, she has re-created herself over the past six years.

Add in a chance encounter with a handsome biker named Max, whose sad, knowing eyes flash with a desire that sends her poor heart into overdrive, and life gets more than a little complicated.

Macomber’s novels are always a delightful gift for her readers, and “A Turn in the Road” is no exception. Her character of Bethann has been in the background for several of the Blossom Street books, and now it is her turn to shine, and girl, does she ever shine.

Macomber adds in enough back story to catch devoted fans up with the action, but also allows new readers to experience the friendship and romance that are the trademarks of this charming series.
