Mad Mud Run is today

Early risers can still sign up for today’s Mad Mud Run and companion Mudpuppy Splash for kids, and tour Providence, a master-planned community in northwestern Las Vegas.

Developed by Focus Property Group, Providence is the No. 6 best-selling community in the country, according to multiple industry surveys.

The Mad Mud Run and Mudpuppy Splash take place at Providence’s Knickerbocker Park at 10695 W. Dorrell Lane.

The 4.6-mile adult race with boot camp-style obstacles begins and ends at the park and winds through the 1,200-acre community and its Promenade Park.

The Mad Mud Run and the 100-meter kids race both end with participants going through a 40-foot-long mud pit.

Registration starts at 8 a.m. this morning and goes through 10:15 a.m. for Mad Mud Run and 11 a.m. for Mudpuppy Splash. The first of four Mad Mud Run waves is at 9 a.m., with the children’s race beginning around 11:30 a.m. Cost is $60 and $15 per person, respectively, and includes a T-shirt and dog tag.

The minimum age for Mad Mud Run is 12 years old. Special waivers are required for those younger than 18. The Mudpuppy Splash is limited to the first 200 4- to 12-year-olds who register, and 4- to 6-year-olds must be accompanied by a parent or guardian through the mud pit.

Costumes are welcome. Attendees are invited to bring Super Soakers and squirt guns to douse Mad Mud Run participants with water as they go through the Splash Zone just after the race begins.

Everyone is encouraged to bring new and gently used books for the nonprofit Spread the Word Nevada, which promotes literacy for children.

Other activities at Knickerbocker Park include booths, refreshments, awards and park activities such as volleyball, soccer, children’s play areas, splash pad, dog park and picnic areas.

After the races — and cleaning up a bit — event participants are invited to drive through Providence and visit the model homes to learn about the builders’ offerings and springtime promotions.

For example, Richmond American Homes released the large homesites of The Estates at Highgate neighborhood.

These new plans are all single-story, measuring from 3,500 to 4,000 square feet, and are on at least a quarter of an acre.

New features include paver driveways, three-car garages, free-standing bathtubs and guest suites. For information, visit www.richmondamerican.com, or call 702-638-4440.

Two other new neighborhoods are Ryland Homes’ Monticello and Verada View.

Both have community pools and are directly across from Knickerbocker Park.

Monticello features two-story homes and also has its own tot lot. Its Taylor plan is a split-level design with the kitchen on the second floor.

The gated Verada View has two- and three-story homes. Located at one of the highest points in Providence, the three-story models have rooftop decks with views. For more information, visit www.rylandvegas.com.

Other community homebuilders are Beazer Homes, KB Home, Lennar, Pardee, Warmington Residential Nevada and Woodside Homes.

Providence has wide tree-lined boulevards that frame the community, which will house 7,500 residences at build-out. It features the Promenade linear park, Knickerbocker Park with views of the Las Vegas Valley and miles of trail systems.

Providence residents benefit from many social, recreational, community and education programs through the Providence Master Homeowners Association. It is professionally managed by Capital Consultants Management Corp. For information, call 702-216-2020.

For more information about the community, visit www.providencelv.com, call 702-433-5084 or visit the information center at 7181 N. Hualapai Way, Suite 150, off the Las Vegas Beltway north and Hualapai.
