Maybe it can get worse

The headline on last week's column (March 9) wondered whether the hepatitis scare stories involving the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada could get any worse. Apparently it can. Now comes news that the county hospital had a contract with the same group. Although that contract has now been canceled and there is currently no evidence that the bad practices took place at the county hospital, you know what this connection means. It means that now the teevee lawyers circling the Endoscopy Center have a possible path for which to include taxpayers in future lawsuits. Great. Not only do the people of Clark County get to go through the angst of a possible Hepatitis epidemic, we may get to pay for the settlement too.

That's getting the shaft -- coming and going.
