Memorial run to honor victims of deadly IHOP shooting in Carson City

CARSON CITY — Members of the Nevada National Guard will honor victims of the 2011 IHOP shooting in Carson City on Friday with and informal memorial run and walk.

Sgt. 1st Class Jeremy Mock who survived the shooting that killed three of his fellow guardsmen and another woman will lead a pack of runners and walkers along a five-kilometer route.

Nine people were wounded Sept. 6, 2011, when Eduardo Sencion opened fire in the restaurant before killing himself in the parking lot.

Killed were Lt. Col. Heath Kelly, Master Sgt. Christian Riege, Sgt. 1st Class Miranda McElhiney and Florence Donovan-Gunderson.

The memorial run is contingent upon air quality and is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. in the IHOP parking lot. It will end at the Nevada National Guard compound on Fairview Drive.
