Metro veteran takes gamble in criminal investigation

Embattled Metro Lt. Ben Kim, who is caught up in a police and FBI criminal case, continues to roll the dice with investigators, informed sources say.

Earlier this week, sources spotted Kim entering the federal public defender’s office, where he met with representatives of the government in an effort to hammer out a proffer and agreement to cooperate in the investigation. For a short time, everything went well and Kim communicated with investigators.

But now I’ve learned investigators are pulling the proffer, which would enable Kim to swear to a set of facts and potentially avoid facing a wide variety of criminal charges.

If he’s innocent, bully for Kim for standing up. If he’s playing games with investigators who are taking a hard look into corrupt local homeowners associations and Kim’s own business and bank dealings, then the Metro lieutenant has certainly motivated his adversaries.
