Millions more pour into Angle, Reid accounts
Republican Sharron Angle entered the final stretch of her Senate campaign with a substantial cash advantage over four-term Democrat Sen. Harry Reid, according to their latest full campaign finance reports covering early October.
Angle had $2.7 million cash on hand as of Oct. 13 after raising $3.5 million during the first two weeks of October, according to documents that became available this morning in the U.S. Senate.
Reid had $1.15 million cash on hand after raising $603,703 during the same period, according to his campaign filing.
The two campaigns each spent nearly $2.9 million during the period on media buys primarily for television advertisements that are running on Nevada stations.
Angle continued to spend heavily on direct mail during the two-week period. Reid also spent $228,000 on polling.
The reports that became available this morning cover the campaigns' financial activities from Oct. 1 through Oct.13.
Since then both campaigns have raised thousands more as they target Election Day. The reports up today, for instance, do not take into account money they have raised since their Oct. 14 televised debate.
Including the report that came out this morning, Angle has raised $21,470,520 and has spent $18,777,355.
Reid overall has raised $22,662,925 and spent $23,242,822.
It is likely the last glimpse of how the campaigns are spending their money or how much they have in the bank, since the next full reports are not due until after the election.
From Oct. 14 until Election Day the camps are filing notices with the Federal Election Commission whenever they receive individual donations of more than $1,000. A compilation of those reports was not immediately available.
As well, the money the two candidates are raising and spending tells only part of the story as outside groups are spending heavily to influence Nevada voters.
