Miracle League breaks ground in Las Vegas

Years from now, I believe locals will look back with pride at the presence of a Miracle League baseball field in our community.

Organizers of the field, located at 101 S. Rancho Drive next to First Christian Church, broke ground Thursday morning with City Councilman Ricky Barlow and congressional point person Nicole Wright in attendance. Representatives of the Masons, Rancho Manor Homeowners Association, and Opportunity Village were also on hand.

The field is the dream of local attorney and businessman Tim McGarry, who teamed up with Sal Cordero and First Christian co-pastors Ginger and David Jarman to hammer out the arrangement that will bring the baseball field designed for use by children with disabilities to Las Vegas.

Although the field's construction will benefit from a $1.5 million donation by the Engelstad Family Foundation, private donations are invited.

The field should be up and running by November.
