‘Miracle Letters’ author coming to town
Geoff Herbach, author of “The Miracle Letters of T. Rimberg,” will be in town for two readings.
“Miracle Letters” is a sometimes funny, sometimes disturbing novel about T. Rimberg, whose wife has left him and took the kids. His girlfriend dumped him and he quit his job. He decides he’s going to kill himself. He also decides to let everyone know he has killed himself by writing letters to relatives, old girlfriends, politicians and celebrities.
“Dear Madonna,
In 1986 you caused me to have an erection that lasted eight days. I thought I’d have to be hospitalized — it hurt me terribly.
You made your bazillions turning sixteen-year-old boys into sex addicts. ... Look at the horrifying little pop singers you helped spawn. ...
Just thought you should know I’m going to kill myself.
Sincerely,
T. Rimberg”
The book does have a serious side, as T. takes off in search of his father, who abandoned him, and travels to Belgium and Poland, discovering his family’s unsettling ties to Nazi Germany.
Herbach, who was a performance artist before writing the novel, will be reading from his book at 7 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Clark County Library Jewel Box Theater, 1401 E. Flamingo Road; and at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 at Borders, 6521 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Both events are free and open to the public.
