More Republican ballot box intrigue
Robert Holloway, the Republican who launched a group to oppose the U.S. Senate candidacy of Republican Sue Lowden, says missing ballots from the 2008 state party convention have turned up in Reno.
The April, 2008 convention ended without completing the process for electing delegates to the national convention after supporters of insurgent presidential candidate Ron Paul appeared to muster enough support to outnumber supporters of official favorite John McCain, the eventual nominee.
The abrupt ending angered Holloway and some other Paul supporters and led to the anti-Lowden campaign, as Lowden was state GOP chairwoman at the time.
Now Holloway says some uncounted ballots from Congressional District 2 that had gone missing turned up in a lockbox at the Peppermill casino, site of the 2008 state convention.
Some highlights from Holloway's Tuesday morning report on the find: (edited for brevity)
"In box #99 at the Peppermill's cashier's cage, we found the ballots from CD 2. The seals on the envelopes containing the ballots were unbroken. We immediately placed the ballots into a different locked box at the Peppermill cashier's cage.
Although the National Republican Convention is long over, we are determined to have these ballots counted. We believe we have the obligation to determine the outcome of that vote, in the interests of justice, for the record, as well as for the health and unification of the Republican Party itself.
*The ballot count is tentatively scheduled take place at the Washoe County Republican Party headquarters this Friday, October 30th, at 4:00 pm. A limited number of volunteers are needed to count votes and to observe the vote count."
