Mountain’s Edge hosts classic car show today at Exploration Park

Mountain's Edge, a 3,500-acre master-planned community in southwestern Las Vegas, will host a classic car show today featuring iconic automobiles from the 1970s and earlier decades. The family friendly event will be held in Exploration Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and includes live music and food.

"With the weather warming up and people enjoying outdoor activities, the car show provides a wonderful opportunity for residents of Mountain's Edge, as well as those interested in seeing the lifestyle of the community to come out and have some fun," said Deonna Stocker, manager of information center operations at the Home Search Café. "We're going to have a wide range of beautiful cars parked on display and themed music and food that combined will present everyone that attends a fun-filled trip down memory lane."

Festivities will include a contest for the best '50s outfit and most decorated bike, along with games such as volleyball and horseshoes and other activities for all ages. The band Hubcaps will play '50s and '60s music, and free root beer floats will be provided by Sonic, Stocker said.

Spring Mountain Raceway will display cars, including a $300,000 Corvette that is only one of five cars of its kind made in the country, she said.

In addition to today's classic car show, another event on the calendar is the second annual Country in the Park festival May 3 at Exploration Park. The family friendly event will showcase western-themed performances and live music by local country and western bands, mechanical bull riding, line dancing lessons and an array of booths with food and refreshments.

Exploration Park is the first park planned for Mountain's Edge. Its most visible feature is a Western Theme Park.

Focus Property Group, master planner of Mountain's Edge, looked to create an Old West Village that challenged the imaginative minds of children, while keeping them physically active.

For residents interested in hikes and scenic walks, Exploration Peak is Nevada's first mountain park, with several trails leading to the top of 2,846-foot Exploration Peak.

"Whether it's a spring picnic for residents, or concerts and events, or just a picnic for your family, Exploration Park is the perfect place for outdoor events all year long at Mountain's Edge," Stocker said.

In addition to events at Exploration Park, the master-planned community also conducts quarterly events at its Demonstration Garden, located behind Mountain's Edge's Home Search Café.

The Garden was built as a resource center to teach residents about drought-tolerant landscaping materials.

Mountain's Edge was certified by Robert Charles Lesser & Co., a leading independent real estate advisory firm, as the No. 1-selling master planned community in the United States in 2007. In 2006, the community ranked No. 2.

When fully developed, Mountain's Edge is planned for four elementary schools -- one of which is already open with a second under construction -- plus two middle schools and a high school. The community is planned to have a fire station, shops, restaurants and commercial office space.

Builders with actively selling neighborhoods are Amstar Homes, Avante Homes, Beazer Homes, D.R. Horton, Engle Homes, KB Home, Kimball Hill Homes, Lennar, Meritage Homes, Pardee Homes, Phillips Homes, Pulte Homes, R/S Development, Ryland Homes, Toll Brothers, Warmington Homes Nevada and Woodside Homes.
