Mountain’s Edge to host Cactus Cup race

The active outdoor lifestyle at Mountain's Edge is about to become even more evident when the master-planned community plays host to the 2008 Mountain's Edge Cactus Cup, a three-day mountain bike stage race and festival, Sept. 19-21.

The race will benefit the Animal Foundation and HERA Women's Cancer Foundation.

First launched in 1991 in Scottsdale, Ariz., the Cactus Cup race and festival quickly became the world's No. 1 mountain bike event, attracting 10,000 participants and 75,000 spectators with races in cities across the United States and all over the world.

Mountain's Edge partnered with Swagger LLC to revive the event, which was last raced in 2001 in Athens, Ga.

"Mountain's Edge is thrilled to be part of the rebirth of what has long been regarded as one of the preeminent drivers in making mountain biking such a popular sport," said Deonna Stocker, manager of information center operations at Mountain's Edge's Home Search Café.

"Our community is one that provides plenty of opportunities for living an active, outdoor lifestyle and the 2008 Mountain's Edge Cactus Cup is certain to offer riders of all ages the chance to enjoy competition and have some fun."
