MOVIES: CineVegas Gets ‘Smart’

The 10th annual CineVegas film festival (June 12-21 at the Palms' Brenden Theatres) gets a piece of The Rock — alias Dwayne Johnson — June 15 with an afternoon benefit screening of the new comedy "Get Smart," in which Johnson co-stars with Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway.
The movie opens in theaters June 20, so CineVegas patrons get a five-day jump on the remake of the '60s TV comedy classic, which stars Carell as bumbling Agent 86, Maxwell Smart, Anne Hathaway as svelte Agent 99 and Johnson — who is expected to attend the screening — as superstar Agent 23.
The event benefits The Rock Foundation's Project Knapsack, a pen-pal and school-supply program between American students and their peers in developing countries.
Proceeds from the CineVegas screening will help implement Project Knapsack at Reynaldo L. Martinez Elementary School in Las Vegas,” according to CineVegas President Robin Greenspun. “This event further cements CineVegas’ commitment to giving back to the local community, which has given so much support to the festival over the past 10 years,” she stated in a news release.
Tickets for the benefit range from $25-$45 and may be purchased by calling 1-888-883-4278, online at www.cinevegas.com or, starting June 2,  at the CineVegas box office at Brenden Theatres. A limited number of sponsorship packages, including a meet and greet with Dwayne Johnson, also are available.
