MOVIES: Special screenings — Expanded ‘Metropolis’ lands in Las Vegas

Director Fritz Lang's visionary "Metropolis" has been a science fiction classic since its 1927 debut. And now, there's even more to love.

Some 25 minutes more, in fact — lost footage discovered in Argentina and added to Lang's indelible portrait of a futuristic dystopia, a vision that's influenced subsequent cinematic breakthroughs from "Blade Runner" to "The Dark Knight's" Gotham City.

Local movie buffs finally have the chance to visit this expanded "Metropolis" for themselves this weekend, when the Sci Fi Center screens "Metropolis" at 8 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 25) and 1 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 26).

Tickets are $10 and available at the door of the center, which is located in the Commercial Center's New Orleans Square building, above the Insurgo Theatre. For more information, check out the Sci Fi Center's website at http://thescificenter.com/ —  or call 792-4335.
