MOVIES: Special screenings — Las Vegas Film Festival plays it again
June 24, 2010 - 11:52 am
It's deja view all over again as some of the highlights of June's Las Vegas Film Festival screen again in July.
The free screenings will be presented at 2:30 p.m. every Sunday at the Las Ventanas retirement community, 10401 W. Charleston Blvd.
The series launches July 4 with "Bicycle Dreams," which won the Las Vegas Film Festival's best documentary award, one of several international prizes captured by this account of a cross-country bicycle race where riders discover both tragedy and triumph.
On July 11, the documentary "Fighter Pilot" — originally created for IMAX theaters — follows a young pilot through the annual Red Flag simulated air combat training event at Nellis Air Force Base.
On July 18, another documentary, "Somewhere Near Tapachula," focuses on Australian volunteers at a Mexican orphanage, while a block of short films created by UNLV film students rounds out the screenings July 25.
All free screenings will be held inside the Theater Room at Las Ventanas; complimentary refreshments will be provided. (Space is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.) For additional information, contact Patty Allsbrook at 400-1562 or Las Ventanas at 360-2662.
