MOVIES: Special Screenings — Range Life ranges into Las Vegas
Not everything at the movies this week is about Michael Jackson — or Halloween.
Everything from beer pong to Catholic school conspiracy's on the menu during Range Life Entertainment's touring showcase, organized by filmmaker Todd Sklar. Screenings will be held Tuesday through Thursday at the Freakin' Frog, 4700 S. Maryland Parkway.
"It's all about getting these films out there and connecting with their audiences," Sklar says of the nationwide tour, which concentrates on college towns and hipster cities from Austin to San Francisco.
In Las Vegas, the series kicks off at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 27) with the documentary "Last Cup: The Road to the World Series of Beer Pong."
On Wednesday (Oct. 28), it's double-feature time. "Assassination of a High School President" leads off at 5 p.m.; Bruce Willis and Mischa Barton lead the cast of this comedy, about a high school hottie and a sophomore reporter who team up to blow the whistle on stolen college-entrance exams at their Catholic school. And at 7 p.m., "Adventures of Power," a small-town dreamer (Ari Gold — no relation to the "Entourage" character) pursues a quest to become the world's greatest air drummer; Michael McKean and Jane Lynch also turn up in the cast, along with "Entourage's" own Adrian Grenier.
The Thursday, Oct. 29, lineup: the comedy "Nobody," about an art student struggling to find inspiration (and escape ridiculous situations) at 5 p.m., followed at 7 p.m. by organizer Sklar's acclaimed 2008 debut "Box Elder," about a quartet of bantering college pals.
