Muddy Waters

The ethics investigation of Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., took a turn for the worse (for her) when an e-mail from her chief of staff (and her grandson) appeared after all such relevant information was supposed to already been turned over to the Ethics Committee. Now the committee is looking into why the e-mail wasn't turned over as required. (They wouldn't try to hide it, would they?)

You can find a detailed story on this from the Washington Post here.

The bottom line is clear: Rep. Waters through her grandson kept close eye on legislation -- even suggesting wording changes to the legislation -- to help Waters' husband's bank get a bailout. In fact, federal regulators said those wording changes are in the end what qualified Waters' husband's bank for the money.

I thought Nancy Pelosi was supposed to have drained the swamp of this kind of ick. Apparently not.

Keep an eye on this investigation. My bet is this gets uglier.
