Nathaniel Jones Park set to open this weekend

The grand opening of Nathaniel Jones Park in Mountain's Edge is set from 3 to 7 p.m. this Saturday, June 23 at the new park, 8800 Sparkling Chandon Drive. A brief ceremony for the opening is set for 4 p.m. There is no cost to attend.

A squirt gun fight, water slides, confetti canons, a scavenger hunt, petting zoo, pony rides, music, dancing and arts and crafts are planned. Speeches from Clark County Commissioner Susan Brager; John Ritter, founder and CEO of Focus Property Group, developer of Mountain’s Edge; Vicky Parris, manager of the Mountain’s Edge Master Association; and Glen Proctor, Mountain’s Edge Master Association resident board member are also planned.

The Nathaniel Jones Park grand opening comes at a time when few other outdoor and lifestyle amenities are being added given the economic climate in Southern Nevada. The southwest part of the Las Vegas Valley has had one of the lowest park-to-population ratios.

Directions to the park from Mountain’s Edge entrance:

• 9275 S. Buffalo Drive at Blue Diamond Road

• South on Buffalo Drive

• West on Mountain’s Edge Parkway

• North on Riley between Durango Drive and El Capitan Way (entering Maravilla community)
