Residents are invited to a free, interactive foreclosure prevention and mediation event planned for 2-4 p.m. May 11 at the Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive.

The event is designed to provide information on various tools and programs to help residents facing foreclosure on their primary residence. A number of speakers, including representatives from the city of Las Vegas, the Nevada Attorney General’s Office, the Nevada Foreclosure Mediation Program and Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Nevada, will provide information on a variety of topics. There also will be a Q-and-A period.

The event is being presented by the city of Las Vegas Senior Citizens Law Project in conjunction with the Nevada Foreclosure Mediation Program. It is part of the observance of Older Americans Month, which is observed each May to acknowledge the contributions of past and current seniors.

Interested parties are asked to RSVP to 229-4167 as soon as possible, as space is limited.

Rotary Club invites would-be members
to breakfast in Centennial Hills

The Centennial Hills Rotary Club is looking for new members.

Month of friendship to be celebrated
by Las Vegas Center for spiritual living

The Las Vegas Center for Spiritual Living, 4325 N. Rancho Drive, encourages the community to mark the Month of Friendship with its congregation each Sunday in May.

Events and surprises for all ages are planned for each Sunday to help reinforce the notion that meaningful friendships are essential to living a healthy, happy and fulfilled life, representatives said.

Las Vegas Astronomical Society to host Desert Under the Stars event

The rangers of the Desert National Wildlife Refuge and the Las Vegas Astronomical Society plan to host Desert Under the Stars at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Corn Creek Field Station on U.S. Highway 95, north of Las Vegas.

Members’ telescopes will offer viewing of the moon and Saturn just after sunset, followed by deep-sky viewing of galaxies, nebulae and star clusters as the sky darkens. A laser-guided What’s Up Tonight tour of the night sky is planned for 8:30 p.m. The event is free.

Attendees can park at the information kiosk and take a short walk to the observing site. Handicap parking is available.

The club plans to be at the Las Vegas Science Festival and Expo on Saturday at the Cashman Center, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North, with solar viewing beginning at 10 a.m. and night sky viewing after dark.

Health and wellness event
planned for Saturday

Guest speakers, informational booths and activities for kids are planned during a community health and wellness event set for 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the SGI Las Vegas Community Center, 2725 W. Charleston Blvd.

Participants can stroll through booths featuring noninvasive testing and information on various diseases and services. A healthy activity corner is planned for children .

Speakers are scheduled to address topics such as sleep apnea, stress reduction, disability insurance, acupuncture, sports nutrition and mental coping.

SGI Las Vegas is a Buddhist center affiliated with SGI-USA. The event is being sponsored by the SGI-USA Golden Stage Group. For more information, call 258-6489 or visit sgi-usa-lasvegas.org.
