funds awarded to centennial hills homeowners associations

Five Centennial Hills homeowners associations were among 20 Las Vegas neighborhood entities to receive city funds for improvements and enhancements.

The Neighborhood Partners Fund has allocated $55,000 to the neighborhood associations to help improve safety, beautify or otherwise enhance neighborhoods across the city. In turn, the neighborhood associations must provide more than $190,402 in matching labor and donations.

The Centennial Hills HOAs, projects and sums include:

n Ashley Ridge HOA, family park revitalization, $3,000.

n Cascade HOA, park lighting, $3,400.

n Four Winds HOA, power and security lighting project, $3,000.

n Hillstone Estates II HOA, entryway improvement, $2,000.

n Willowdale Estates HOA, community security, $4,000.

The Neighborhood Partners Fund was designed to encourage neighborhoods to take an active role in improving the quality of life in the city of Las Vegas by enhancing the physical, public safety, cultural, recreational or educational conditions of the community. The program grants up to $5,000 to registered neighborhood groups (neighborhood associations and homeowners associations).

Over the past 13 years, the program has funded 234 neighborhood projects that have generated nearly $2.8 million worth of neighborhood improvements.

Las Vegas City Councilman Steve Ross' of Ward 6 is set to attend a Tapestry at Town Center Homeowners Association meeting planned for 5:30 p.m. today at 6628 Sky Pointe Drive.

city to offer volleyball leagues

Sign up for adult coed recreational sand volleyball leagues offered by the city of Las Vegas.

Registration is open from Sept. 6-16 for the 18-and-older six-on-six league. Games are hosted from 7-9 p.m. Thursdays at Centennial Hills Park, 7101 N. Buffalo Drive, beginning Oct. 6.

The fee is $150 per team.

kazakhstan ambassador to us
to speak at atomic testing museum

Erlan A. Idrissov, ambassador from the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United States, is slated to be the featured speaker for a presentation and roundtable discussion planned for 3-5 p.m. Sept. 1 at the Atomic Testing Museum, 755 E. Flamingo Road.

The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Idrissov's visit commemorates the anniversary of a resolution designating Aug. 29 as International Day Against Nuclear Testing and the 20th anniversary of the closure of the Soviet Semipalatinsk Test Site.

Other invited national and local government officials and individuals may speak, too.
