$75 MAMMOGRAMS AVAILABLE THIS MONTH
Special $75 digital screening mammograms are being offered through May 31, for any woman at least 40 years old,, without a physician's referral.
The screenings are available at The Breast Center at Sunrise, 3006 S. Maryland Parkway, Suite 250; Southern Hills Hospital, 9300 W. Sunset Road, and Red Rock Radiology, 7130 Smoke Ranch Road.
The program is most beneficial to women who may be uninsured or underinsured. Women should check with their insurance providers as the mammogram might be fully covered.
To schedule a mammogram, contact The Breast Center at Sunrise at 784-7870, Southern Hills Hospital at 880-2900 or Red Rock Radiology at 731-2888.
Stroke screenings planned at Wednesday informational event
Strokes are the third leading cause of death in the U.S., and Sunrise Health hospitals want residents to know the signs and receive a free screening, planned for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center's h2u Office at 3061 S. Maryland Parkway, Suite 102.
Amy Hoban, stroke program manager, is set to discuss how to identify stroke symptoms and what to do to prevent a stroke. Free stroke and vascular screening assessments also are planned.

UNLV graduates to celebrate at saloon
McFadden's Restaurant and Saloon at the Rio, 3700 W. Flamingo Road, is celebrating the end of the school year Saturday with a UNLV Grad Bash to honor Las Vegas' most recent graduates.
McFadden's is inviting all recent UNLV graduates, their friends and families to celebrate graduation. All UNLV graduates will drink free from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m., and anyone wearing UNLV gear will receive a free shot.
Guests can gather after commencement for a pregame open bar planned for 8 to 10 p.m. for $15. The party is set to continue with an open bar from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m. for $20 for women and $30 for men.
Entries due SATURDAY AND SUNDAY in Red Rock Canyon photo contest
Entries for the Red Rock Canyon Annual Photo Contest are scheduled to be accepted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center.
Categories are Nature, Wildlife, Creative and Monochromatic. First prize is $100. There is a ceiling cap of 100 entries per category. A teen nature/wildlife category has a top prize of $50.

Water Authority accepting nominations for Landscape Awards
The Southern Nevada Water Authority's 13th annual Landscape Awards competition is taking applications.
The contest is open to residents and landscape professionals interested in showing off their water-efficient landscapes.

Help stamp out hunger this weekend
Residents wishing to help ease hunger in the valley can leave nonperishable food items at their mailboxes Saturday for their letter carrier to pick up and deliver to a local food or pantry, or stop by any Albertsons/Sav-on by Saturday and donate money at the register and drop off donations of nonperishable food.
More than 300,000 people in Southern Nevada struggle with hunger every day -- one out of every six people. Most needed items include canned meat, canned tuna, canned ham, canned salmon, canned stew, peanut butter, pasta swirls & beef (pop top), beans & franks (pop top), Vienna sausage, cereal boxes (single-serving), beans, Bisquick, oatmeal, sugar and flour.
