The Paradise Town Advisory Board has scheduled its biweekly meeting for 7 p.m. today at the Paradise Recreation and Community Services Center, 4775 S. McLeod Drive.

The Whitney Town Advisory Board has scheduled its biweekly meeting for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Whitney Recreation Center, 5712 E. Missouri Ave.

The Sunrise Manor Town Advisory Board has scheduled its biweekly meeting for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hollywood Recreation and Community Services Center, 1650 S. Hollywood Blvd.

Spring Speedfest coming to Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Spring Speedfest is scheduled from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, 7000 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Advance tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and military and $6 for children. Tickets on the day of the race are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and military and $6 for children. Teams to leap into 3-D Dodgeball Tournament Friday

Freaky Friday Frenzy, a 3-D dodgeball tournament, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Sky Zone, 4915 Steptoe St., Suite 400. Check-in time is 6:30 p.m. The playing surface is made up of interconnected trampolines. The six-person-team tournament is for participants ages 10 to 15. The registration fee is $60 per team. B Connected Club members invited to WWE viewing party at Sam's Town

HISTORICAL GROUP TO MEET AT LIBRARY

The Kingdom of Albion is set to meet at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the auditorium of the Sunrise Library, 5400 Harris Ave. The group is the local branch of the Adrian Empire, a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to the study and re-creation of Western European culture between 1066 and 1603. Help st amp out hunger this weekend

Residents are asked to leave non-perishable food items at their mailbox Saturday for their letter carrier to pick up and deliver to a local food bank or pantry, or stop by any Albertsons/Sav-on by Saturday and donate money at the register and drop off donations of non-perishable food items.

More than 300,000 people in Southern Nevada struggle with hunger every day -- one out of every six people. Most needed items include canned meat, canned tuna, canned ham, canned salmon, canned stew, peanut butter, pasta swirls and beef (pop top), beans and franks (pop top), Vienna sausage, cereal boxes (single-serving), beans, Bisquick, oatmeal, sugar and flour.

Buy a pin to help a child

During May, all Short Line Express convenience stores will be selling Yogi Bear and Kermit paper hearts and select stores will be selling various styles of gold heart pins to raise money in support of Variety -- The Children's Charity.

Variety helps children with special needs in Southern Nevada. For more information about the group, visit varietysn.org.

Patrons can purchase a paper heart for $1 or a gold heart pin for $2.

Vegas PBS to host cooking demonstration with Hubert Keller

Vegas PBS plans to host an exclusive cooking demonstration with celebrity chef Hubert Keller at its Educational Technology Campus, 3050 E. Flamingo Road, at 2 p.m. Friday.

The demonstration is open to the public for a $365 donation to Vegas PBS, which includes entry for two to the event, a Cuisinart Elite Collection food processor and an autographed copy of Keller's "Burger Bar" cookbook.

RC plane event planned

Desert Newcomers to host spring fashion show at Wildhorse Golf Club

A spring fashion show featuring Alfred Dunner attire is planned from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 18 by the Desert Newcomers Club Inc. The show is scheduled at the Wildhorse Golf Club, 2100 W. Warm Springs Road.

Desert Newcomers Club Inc. is a social women's organization for those who have lived in the Las Vegas area for three years or less and want to meet new friends.
