Ward 4 to redo election
in City Council race

The North Las Vegas City Council voted June 15 not to certify the Ward 4 race between incumbent City Councilman Richard Cherchio and dentist Wade Wagner.

A new vote is expected next month to determine a winner.

Cherchio received 1,830 votes to Wagner's 1,831, but an ineligible voter was allowed to cast a ballot in Ward 4's precinct 4306.

The vote could not be traced after being cast.

Voters in precinct 4306, in which the ineligible vote was cast, will be allowed to vote again. It will be open to all registered voters, not just those who voted June 7. The redo could take three weeks or more to accommodate for absentee ballots.

The council approved a contract with Faciliteq Business Interiors in the amount of $1.15 million for the purchase of furniture and equipment at the new city hall, scheduled to open in December.

The furniture originally was expected to cost $1.42 million, but the government will move more than 95 percent of private office furniture and 90 percent of conference room furniture to save money.

The council also amended the number of proposed pools at the Vista Cielo Villages, a 100-unit housing development at the northeast corner of Lawrence Street and Ann Road.

Developers, citing the economic downturn, plan to replace one of the three originally proposed pools with a park instead.

The meeting also was the last for Mayor Pro Tempore William Robinson, who served 28 years on the council.
