Nevada Supreme Court creates two big losers
The two big losers from the Nevada Supreme Court decision today to overturn Secretary of State Ross Miller's decision on how to elect a new representative to Nevada's second congressional district are first, of course, SOS Miller and second the political "analysts" that consistently displayed a bias in reporting the story.
I cut Ross some slack in that the Nevada Legislature's law on the matter was terribly bungled -- not all that unusual for the Nevada Legislature, by the way. He tried to make sense of the law, but in the end he let his political party get the best of his common sense. Something to remember should Miller seek higher office.
I don't cut any slack to the members of the Nevada press corps that so blatantly rooted for Miller's ruling, sometimes called the "ballot royale" decision. They hailed Miller as brave and right and derided the district court ruling when it dared to tear into the Miller interpretation.
For the record, here's a guy who got it wrong, predicting during oral arguments that the Supreme Court leaned toward siding with Democrats. Oops.
Here's a member of the press who got it dead right.
it's worth remembering.
