New online real estate community provides voice for owners, renters

SAN FRANCISCO -- StreetAdvisor.com today announced an online community where homeowners, renters, and buyers can share and learn about quality of life on specific streets, along with the nuances, services and details known only by those who have lived there.

StreetAdvisor is the easiest way to find out what people really think about where they live and where you might be looking to live.

The service is an entirely new kind of online real estate community powered by crowd sourced reviews.

It provides a real-life "insider" view, becoming the essential guidebook to finding the right street, written by the people who have lived there.

Consumers can learn and share vital details about streets including noise levels, traffic, neighbors, entertainment and public services, etc. in a way that wasn't previously available.

It also allows for firsthand recommendations and negative experiences about local businesses, entertainment, services, lifestyle and back road gems unbeknownst to outsiders.

Each person can rank the streets where they live, lived or visited, as well as provide detailed review to further highlight their experience. This contributes to the overall StreetScore city ranking, which is displayed for each street.

Categories include:

-- StreetVIBE. Neighborly spirit, nightlife, dining, shopping, fitness facilities.

-- StreetWIRED. Cell reception, Internet access.

-- StreetHEALTH. Peace and quiet, traffic, safety, cleanliness and appearance.

-- StreetVALUE. Cost of living, resale/rental value.

-- StreetESSENTIALS. Public transportation, medical, schools, government, utilities, parks.

"While there are many online and offline city guides, nothing has focused on lifestyle at the street level," said Adam Spencer, chief executive officer and co-founder.

"Before StreetAdvisor.com, home buyers and renters were making important decisions based on the word of agents and landlords. We use the wisdom of crowds to help people share in firsthand experiences in order to make life-enhancing decisions, before they move in."

In addition, the StreetAdvisor "StreetBoard" has been created, where residents can communicate with their neighbors.

People can join their street and contribute or find information on essential services, resources, and ideas, create chat topics for discussion, or simply say what's on their mind on StreetShout.

StreetAdvisor is also integrating video for people to post videos taken on their street, from house parties, local parks, to a walk in the outdoors on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

This is an empty canvas for people to show what life is like where they live.

Site visitors can search at the street or city level. It also enables them to search based on criteria that matters most to them.

For example, if Neighborly Spirit and Public Transportation are the most important criteria, then visitors simply drag the onscreen sliders and the reviewed streets with this information will appear larger on the map.

The site is currently in public Beta and is initially focusing on the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.

Founded in 2007 by Jason Spencer and Adam Spencer, StreetAdvisor.com helps people learn more about their communities while helping others make better decisions about where they choose to live.
