New poll confirms dead heat in Reid-Angle race
Dead heat.
A new poll posted this morning by Rasmussen Reports is in line with other recent surveys that show the Senate race between Sen. Harry Reid and challenger Sharron Angle remains deadlocked. Both candidates registered 47 percent support in the survey taken Monday of 750 likely voters.
The poll suggests Democrat Reid continues to build and solidify support after being stuck in the low 40 percent range for most of the early campaign.
At the same time the numbers indicate Republican Angle may have stopped the bleeding of her campaign, which had been dropping from the high of 50 percent support in early June to only 43 percent late last month due to a combination of gaffes and aggressive advertising from the incumbent.
Counting "leaners," Rasmussen reports Angle at 50 percent and Reid at 48 percent. As a result, Rasmussen moved the race from "leans Democrat" to "toss up."
Only 2 percent of likely voters say they remain undecided, with more than two months to go until Election Day.
Most voters "already have staked out firm positions on the candidates," according to Rasmussen. Eighty-eight percent of Reid voters say they won't change their mind, while 85 percent of Angle voters say the same thing.
The numbers are here on the Senate race and a variety of other issues on which Nevadans were polled.
A survey last week by Mason-Dixon Polling and Research for the Las Vegas Review-Journal and 8 NewsNow showed Reid edging Angle, 46 percent to 44 percent, a statistical tie.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted July 30-August 1 had Reid up, 48-44 percent.
