New poll shows Sandoval with healthy lead in governor’s race

It’s not quite game over since the Nov. 4 general election is still more than four months away, but a new poll of likely Nevada voters confirms that Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval is headed toward an easy re-election.

Sandoval has a 2-to-1 lead over his Democratic opponent, Robert Goodman, the 79-year-old former Nevada economic development director in the 1970s, according to a Rasmussen survey released Tuesday.

Sandoval won 55 percent support from voters in the poll compared to 28 percent for Goodman. Another 6 percent preferred some other candidate and 11 percent were undecided.

The poll of 750 likely Nevada voters was taken June 16 through June 18 by automated phone dialing. The margin of error is plus or minus four percentage points.

In the June 10 Democratic primary, Goodman finished second with 25 percent of the vote, behind the first-place finisher, “none of these candidates,” which garnered 30 percent of the vote. Nevada includes the “none” option in statewide races.

Sandoval won about 90 percent of the vote in the Republican primary.
