CACTUS SALE AND BBQ PLANNED AT UNCE ORCHARD

The UNLV Cactus Sale and BBQ is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the UNCE Orchard at UNLV's Center for Urban Horticulture and Water Conservation, 4734 Horse Drive. Presentations are planned about topics ranging from growing melons in the desert to scorpions. Hamburgers and drinks will be available for $1.25. FREE JOB FAIR SCHEDULED

The Greater Las Vegas Job Fair, a free job resource event, is planned for 10:30 a.m. June 27 at Texas Station, 2101 Texas Star Lane. Participants are slated to have a chance to meet face to face with Las Vegas companies, learn interview preparation tips and have a resume critique during the free event.

BEAT THE HEAT WITH SKATE SCHOOL

The Fiesta Rancho SoBe Ice Arena is to offer ice skating lessons or brush-up tips this summer at the Fiesta Rancho, 2400 N. Rancho Drive. Skate School is open to anyone 3 or older.

The fee is $70 per month, which includes one lesson each week and four public ice skate sessions per month.

FIREARMS CLUB AIMS TO EQUIP WOMEN

Women of High Caliber, a monthly social group for women to learn about firearms or improve their shooting skills, is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. June 28 at the Clark County Shooting Range, 11357 N. Decatur Blvd.

Each meeting includes a social and educational hour, followed by target shooting at the rifle and pistol range.

BOUTIQUE OPENS NEW LOCATION

Patty's Closet Fashion Boutique, a locally owned and operated retailer, has opened its seventh Las Vegas-area location at 6592 N. Decatur Blvd., Suite 125. The store carries inexpensive women's clothes and accessories. The Patty's Closet concept is to carry only six of each style in sizes small, medium and large. 'GOLF WITH GUNS' SITE BREAKS GROUND

Clark County officials broke ground on a 30-station "Golf with Guns" course May 29 at the Clark County Shooting Complex, 11357 N. Decatur Blvd.

Visitors are to be able to target sporting clays, a form of clay pigeon shooting.

Unlike other sporting clay stations, this course is to feature three shooting positions at each station for a total of 90.

Outdoorsman Marty Fischer designed the course.

An opening date for the station has not yet been released.

YOUTH UNITED LOOKING FOR RECRUITS

Students and parents looking to stay civic-minded this summer are encouraged to join Youth United, a service group conducted by Habitat for Humanity.

Volunteers ages 5 to 25 are welcome to join. The group conducts monthly meetings, volunteers, sponsors and builds a house with its local Habitat affiliate.

NORTH LAS VEGAS PLANS INDEPENDENCE DAY JUBILEE

Join the city of North Las Vegas at the annual Independence Day Jubilee from 6 to 9:30 p.m. July 3 at James Seastrand Park, 6330 Camino Eldorado.

Gates are to open at 5 p.m.

Admission is $4 per person. Advance wristbands are on sale at five for $15.

Limited parking is available near the intersection of Revere Street and Centennial Parkway. This year's event will include a state-of-the-art fireworks display, a kids corner and teen zone, live entertainment from Franky Perez and Sleepy Brown, food vendors and interactive sponsor booths.

YMCA TO EXTEND FEDERAL LUNCH SERVICE

SkyView Multi-generational Center YMCA is one of three YMCA of Southern Nevada locations to participate in a summer food service program, a continuation of The National School Lunch Program, this summer.

Youths younger than 19 can receive a free lunch Monday through Friday through Aug. 24, with the exception of July 4, at 3050 E. Centennial Parkway.

The Durango Hills Community Center YMCA, 3521 N. Durango Drive, and the Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane, also plan to participate in the program. Preregistration is not required. For more information, visit lasvegasymca.org.

CITIZEN REVIEW BOARD SEEKS APPLICANTS

Clark County's Citizen Review Board seeks to fill at least one vacancy.

The board reviews citizen complaints and Internal Affairs investigations filed against police and corrections officers.

The 25-member Citizen Review Board is expected to fill at least one vacancy on its board for an upcoming term which begins Jan. 1 and ends Jan. 4, 2016. Applications must be received by June 30.

Membership on the board is voluntary and unpaid. To be eligible, applicants must be residents of unincorporated Clark County or the city of Las Vegas, cannot have any felony convictions, cannot be an elected official, cannot be a present or former Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officer, peace officer or corrections officer, or the spouse, sibling or parent of a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police peace officer. Applicants do not necessarily need to possess any police or investigative skills but must be objective in their work on the board.

DISCOUNTED FELINE ADOPTION FEES AVAILABLE IN JUNE

To mark Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month this June, the Animal Foundation is to offer discounted adoption fees for all adult cats.

Cats 1 year or older are to be available for $30, which is $50 less than the normal adoption fee, until June 30.

The Animal Foundation, 655 N. Mojave Road, receives up to 50,000 animals annually. Numbers grow in the summer months as spring litters are old enough to wander and escape, or simply become too mischievous to keep.

DATE SET FOR NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

Mark your calendars and mobilize neighbors for National Night Out, an event to promote community spirit and reduce crime, planned for Aug. 7.

Communities around the valley and nation are expected to participate in the 29th annual event. Partnerships with neighborhood watches and local law enforcement are encouraged. Participants often celebrate with block parties, cookouts, visits from police and firefighters, parades, flashlight walks and more.

GRIEF CAMP COMING JULY 20-22 TO LOVELL CANYON

Camp Mariposa, a grief camp, is scheduled for July 20-22 at Camp Potosi in Lovell Canyon, 12 miles southwest of Red Rock Canyon.

The camp is accepting applications from children 7 to 12 who have lost a loved one.

It is partially funded through grants from Cox Communications and Speedway Children's Charities. There is no cost to families of accepted campers. A $25 refundable deposit is requested with the application in order to reserve a space. Reservations should be received by June 22.

CAMP REGISTRATION OPENED

Open registration for Clark County Parks and Recreation's summer overnight camps in July is under way.

The price is $400 per child.

This fee includes all meals, snacks, activities, supplies and an official camp T-shirt. Omni Discovery Camp, for ages 8 to 12, is set to take place from July 22-27, and the On the Edge Camp, for ages 13 to 15, is set for July 15-20.

Both camps will take place at Camp Lee Canyon, about 30 minutes from North Las Vegas.

4-H CAMP PLANNED AT LAKE TAHOE

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Southern Area's 4-H camp is planned for July 29-Aug. 4 at the Nevada State 4-H Camp at Lake Tahoe. Registration is open to campers 9 to 15 until the camp is full.
