MYSTERY SUBSTANCE KNOCKS OUT
FEDEX WORKER
A FedEx mechanic was overcome by unknown fumes at the company’s North Las Vegas shipping center July 16.
North Las Vegas Fire Department spokesman Cedric Williams said the adult male mechanic was transported to a hospital to rule out possible exposure concerns and released. No other exposures or injuries were reported.
Fire department hazardous materials crews responded around noon to the facility at 1121 W. Cheyenne Ave. and found occupants in the building’s garage area had already been evacuated by company personnel.
Williams said hazmat crews found and tested a 50-gallon drum of an unknown liquid substance before the container was resealed and carted off by a local hazardous materials company.
“It took about 45 minutes to get to the point where we were able to test (the substance),” Williams said. “We cleared the area just before 2 p.m.”
The results of Las Vegas Fire Department-administered lab tests on the substance had not been released as of press time.
