NRA chastises Chaltiel; mayor’s race grows more partisan

Victor Chaltiel speaks differently and thinks differently, but did he act unethically when it came to linking up with the National Rifle Association?
No way, says Chaltiel campaign manager Ryan Erwin.
The proof is self-evident, counters underdog mayoral candidate George Harris, after finding an NRA emblem and Chaltiel’s name in a Facebook advertisement.
Any new NRA endorsement would surely come as a surprise to mayoral candidate Steve Ross, who has actually been endorsed by the NRA Political Victory Fund, the powerhouse outfit’s representative in Nevada.
The trouble with the dustup, Chaltiel’s Erwin says, is that it’s an empty argument. His man has never claimed any association with the NRA.
But NRA Institute for Legislative Action State Liaison Carrie Herbertson saw enough evidence to rush to send an email to the Second Amendment group’s Nevada membership, clarifying any confusion and reiterating its endorsement of Ross.
From the letter: “The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund has endorsed Las Vegas City Councilman Steve Ross for Mayor for his long-standing advocacy on behalf of the Second Amendment and his championing of the Clark County Shooting Park as a member of its Citizen’s Advisory Committee. Councilman Ross has received an “A” rating from the NRA-PVF and his endorsement is well-deserved.
“It has recently come to the NRA's attention that there is a Facebook advertisement incorrectly inferring that NRA-PVF endorsed Victor Chaltiel. Mr. Chaltiel refused to answer our candidate questionnaire, often a sign of indifference, if not outright hostility, to gun owners’ and sportsmen’s rights. In contrast, Steve Ross is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and he needs your vote to win.
“If you are a registered voter, you are eligible to participate in this election. On Tuesday, April 5th, please stand up for the rights of Nevada's gun owners and vote for the candidate who has remained a consistent defender of the Second Amendment. Vote Steve Ross for Mayor of Las Vegas.”
