Obamacare at work

My brother who lives in Arizona just forwarded me a letter from his longtime primary care doctor. Here’s the key point:

“My favorite part about being a doctor is caring for you and getting to know you on a personal level. However, ongoing changes in healthcare are impacting our time together. And as part of healthcare reform, it is expected that millions of Americans will be seeking care from the same number of primary care physicians …”

His doctor goes on to explain that in order to be a good doctor he is requiring all patients who wish to stay with him to pay an annual fee for the privilege to continuing on as his patient. It’s on a first-come, first-served basis. When he reaches his limit for patients, all others go on a waiting list. And, it’ll cost about $1,500 a year on top of whatever other healthcare costs you may incur.

So, as you can see, you can’t keep your doctor and your plan. And, in some cases, even if you want to keep your doctor, it sure as hell isn’t going to be cheaper.

This is Obamacare at work.
