Obama’s many gaffes don’t make him stupid … and neither do President Bush’s

If you want to read a good analysis on the many gaffes made by Sen. Barack Obama, take a look this Wall Street Journal column by John Fund. You can link to it here:

John's key point, which I think is stellar truth-telling, is that the American media would take those same gaffes and ridicule Obama as stupid and slow-witted ... if he were a conservative. Since he's a liberal, he's called "sleep deprived" or "campaign stressed" and ultimately forgiven the gaffes. Here's a key graph in the column:
"Over the years, reporters have tagged a long list of conservative public figures, from Barry Goldwater to Ronald Reagan to George W. Bush, as dim and uninformed. The reputation of some of these men has improved over time. But can anyone name a leading liberal figure who has developed a similar media reputation, even though the likes of Al Gore, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi have committed substantial gaffes at times? No reporter I've talked to has come up with a solid example."
Obama has uttered some spectaular gaffes of late. I don't think he's stupid. And neither is President Bush.
