ON THE BEAT: Boulder City Council candidates to face public
The nine candidates vying for two seats on the Boulder City Council will face voters at two events this week. The Boulder City Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Meet the Candidates Night at 7 p.m. March 17, and the Boulder City Democratic Club will hold its own candidates forum at 6:30 p.m. March 18. The Tuesday event will be held on the Boulder City campus of the College of Southern Nevada at 700 Wyoming St. Wednesday’s forum will be in the Multi-Use Room at Broadbent Park, 1301 5th St.
The formats for the two meetings will be similar. Candidates will each be allowed to make an opening statement and then voters may address questions to them. During the Tuesday event, each candidate will sit as his own table and voters can move from table to table asking questions and voicing concerns.
The municipal election is a nonpartisan contest. The candidates are seeking to replace outgoing Council members Mike Pacini and Andrea Anderson. The primary is April 7, and the general election is set for June 2.
Four of the nine candidates for the at-large seats will advance to the general election unless someone gets more than 50 percent in the primary. If there’s a winner of one seat on primary night, the other two highest-tallying candidates will advance to the general election.
Early voting runs from March 21 through April 3. There is no mayor’s race in Boulder City this year as Roger Tobler’s term runs another two years.

The Democratic Club will collect donations of cash and food for Emergency Aid of Boulder City during its event.
