ON THE BEAT: Education reporter makes a plea to schools
March 13, 2009 - 9:19 am
I have a small bone to pick with certain schools.
For the campuses that have computerized visitor check-in, please put a trash can near the terminal!
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the computer-based check-in process, visitors type their name and location onto a computer screen, and out pops a sticker bearing your name and half of your face (the camera never gets it right).
To place it on my shirt, I have to peel the sticker away from its backing. Upon placing the sticky paper on my clothing, I now have sticker backing in my hand with no place for it go.
There is never, I repeat never, a trash can in the vicinity of these terminals.
I can’t tell you how many sticker backings get lost in the bottom of my purse from these school visitations. So to any elementary, middle or high school campus that uses these computerized check-ins, do your visitors a favor and place a little can in the area. I’m sure they will appreciate the gesture.
