One resident inspires others at the Cottages
May 23, 2009 - 9:00 pm
It is a weekday morning and 98-year-old George Dunn is busy exercising and carrying on his active lifestyle at the Cottages of Green Valley, an assisted living and memory care community at 2620 Robindale Road in the southeastern valley.
"I have never seen anyone with so much enthusiasm," said Trudy Andrews, the administrator for Cottages. "I see him out all of the time visiting different residents and just enjoying life. He is a true inspiration to all of us here."
Dunn, a native of East Aurora, N.Y., has been a resident at Cottages of Green Valley since 2007. He and his family members chose Cottages because they were looking for a place where Dunn could be mostly independent but have further assistance, if needed.
"George doesn't want anyone to be down in the dumps," Andrews said. "He is the first to pat someone on the back or give them encouragement. He very seldom has a bad day and his outlook on life is a great inspiration to everyone here."
When Dunn isn't busy exercising, he is playing the guitar, writing poetry or walking as much as 2 miles a day. He has always been an outdoor enthusiast and has often taken pictures of scenic settings.
