Online poker action heats on Capitol Hill
It's been widely expected that Sen. Harry Reid would try to place a bill to legalize online poker onto the big year-end tax cut bill taking shape on Capitol Hill.
Politico confirms Reid has been setting groundwork for such a move, and that he has run into some pushback from certain Republicans.
Sen Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., told the newspaper/newsite he would block the plan, saying there is "zero chance -- no chance whatsoever that would be part of the tax deal. I don't think that would be the right thing to do."
Indian gaming interests also are opposing the bill, arguing it tilts to Nevada interests while discriminating against tribes. And casino owners Sheldon Adelson and Steve Wynn have problems with it as well, according to the newspaper/newsite.
Politico also obtained an updated draft of the bill.
