OPERATION BLUE ANGEL
Police in Franklin Township, New Jersey recently announced an innovative program “designed to improve the safety of senior citizens,” reports WCBS-TV.
“Operation Blue Angel” invites elderly residents to leave a key to their front doors in a lockbox accessible by a combination known to police. Police doing “safety checks” of the homes would knock on the door and, if nobody responds, would use the keys to enter.
What could possibly go wrong?
Well, with a tip of the hat to the Lew Rockwell blog, let's take the example of the 47-year-old resident of Prairie Village, Kan., who received a morning visit March 31 by police officers sent to her apartment to conduct a “welfare check.” Finding armed men at the door who demanded admission despite the (presumed) lack of any warrant or subpoena, the woman "barricaded" her door and refused to cooperate, going so far as to "threaten" the officers.
KCTV Kansas City Channel 5 reports the officers responded by calling in the "Tactical Squad," whose members did pretty much what they're trained to do -- shot and killed the uncooperative woman.
In the words of the local TV reporter, police "were forced to shoot her."
I wonder how they finally filled out their "welfare check" report.
