Outside group funds ad challenging Reid on economy

As Republican Sharron Angle builds a campaign warchest for the Senate race, a GOP outside group is stepping in to run an early ad attacking Sen. Harry Reid on the economy.

American Crossroads says the ad is meant to counter Reid's argument that the economic stimulus is paying off. It asks, "Paying Off for Whom?" as it describes a Nevada in "economic free fall."

Here is some background on the soft money group, formed with a boost from Republican strategists Karl Rove and Ed Gillespie.

Among the early donors is Dallas oilman Trevor Rees-Jones. Rees-Jones put $1 million into American Crossroads in April, according to group reports to the IRS.
