PETS: Readers send in photos of their animals

Readers have submitted hundreds of entries to the View’s pets section. And, because we only can feature a few photos each week in the newspaper, we decided to expand the sharing online. We hope you enjoy these extra faces, and remind you to check back each Tuesday for more photos of your best friends.

“These are our kids, Tango and Cassis,” wrote Catherine and Jose Luis Pawelek of Las Vegas. “Tango, on the left, is a 12-year-old Louisiana Catahoula leopard dog and was named after Argentine-born Jose Luis’ country’s famous dance. Eleven-year-old Cassis, named after Catherine’s favorite libation, Champagne with Creme de Cassis, is a true Heinz 57. You can see that we get their full attention with a treat. They have been part of our family since day one and have traveled with us from New Hampshire, Florida and now Las Vegas.”

“This is Pepper, left, and Jinks, our 5-month-old poodles,” wrote Wanda and Ed Hardy of Las Vegas. “They are a real delight but so full of energy and into everything. Occasionally, they take a break from home destruction and sit together like little angels.”

“This is a photo of Ziggy, our beagle,” wrote Tiana Mendez of Henderson. “He loves to be outside in the sun where he is happy. We always say he is getting his beagle tan.”

“In July 2008, I was leaving to the store when I noticed my neighbor with a bag,” wrote Edward D. Padilla of Las Vegas. “The black plastic bag kept moving, and I heard a kitten’s whimper. I asked what he was doing, and he said his daughter found the ‘flea-bag’ in the alley and brought it home. His intention was to ‘humanely’ dispose of it. Although I am not a pet person — especially cats — I asked him to hand me the bag. He said, ‘One less cat is what this town needs.’ I was ready to fight with him but instead pulled out my cell and snapped his photo. ‘Give me the bag or I send this to the Animal Humane Society,’ I said. He handed over the bag. This cat has whiskers that stretch for miles on each side, so I named him Whiskers. ... He is also an inspiration as he became an added element in my novel ‘Minor Deities’. ... If you ever read the book, or talk to people who have, the solid gray cat is an enigmatic character who helps my hero along. I’m so happy the day Whiskers came into my life.”

Heidi Coron of Las Vegas sent this photo of Aariana and her best friend Bullet blowing bubbles. “Bullet loves to jump up and pop them!”
