‘Pop Tart’ an inside look at celebrity life
What do you get when you combine a dash of Brittney Spears, a touch of Taylor Swift and a heaping helping of all the other blond bombshells on the music scene today?
A Pop Tart!
Or at least that’s what the gals are known as these days — spoiled little girls who have skyrocketed to the top of the music game, whether they deserve it or not, and are surrounded by a fawning entourage who cater to their every whim or tantrum.
In the new book “Pop Tart: A Novel,” authors Kira Coplin and Julianne Kaye give readers an inside look at the manic lifestyle of a rising pop star through the eyes of the one person who is up close and personal — the makeup artist. And it’s not always pretty!
Jackie O’Reilly’s career as an assistant makeup artist has been floundering until a twist of fate sends her out on assignment to work with Brooke Parker, a rising star in the music business. What at first seems to be a fun and glamorous job soon turns into a wild roller coaster ride as Brooke’s stardom takes off.
Going from the innocent excitement and thrill of first-time experiences (first limo ride, first time in first-class, first snort of coke) to the never-ending cycle of parties, sex, drugs and booze, it doesn’t take long for Brooke’s bright star to begin burning out. And all Jackie can do is stand by and watch the flame-out or keep up.
While reading this book, it’s fun to try and figure out just who this story is based on. My bet is the blonde from Louisiana who has trouble keeping her panties on. Readers can make their own assumptions.
Coplin and Kaye deliver “Pop Tart” with the flair of firsthand knowledge. Coplin was formerly on staff of Us Weekly where she was intimately familiar with the ups and downs of celebrity lifestyles. Kaye is a Hollywood makeup artist who has worked with some of the biggest names in the music and movie industries. Both authors draw from personal experience to deliver a sparkling and entertaining story of the behind-the-scenes world of today’s pop culture.
