Porter joins troubled law & lobbying firm
Where do Congressmen go when they’re bounced out of office? Why, to Washington legal and lobbying firms, of course.
Such is the case with our own former Republican Congressman Jon Porter, who lost his re-election bid in November to Democrat Dina Titus. Porter has landed on his feet, accepting employment with noted Washington legal firm Akerman Senterfitt, which boasts a government affairs office of 40.
What Akerman Senterfitt isn’t bragging about these days is the shape of its operations overall. As the National Law Journal reported Feb. 11, the company “has reported a dramatic 30 percent drop in its non-equity shareholders, capping off a difficult year marked by rapid turnover, the embarrassing collapse of a merger, and the revelation that it missed its budget.”
Non-equity shareholders took a 15-percent pay hit. Like a lot of legal firms, this one appears to have undergone considerable belt-tightening.
Who knows, perhaps Porter’s experience will be a boon to business.
