Proposed community to celebrate Halloween
October 20, 2007 - 9:00 pm
The site of the fourth annual Haunted Corn Maze will someday be a master-planned community with 6,000 homes on 1,500 acres along Interstate 15 between Las Vegas and Mesquite in the Moapa Valley, according to the developer, Glendale Holding LLC.
Officials said they expect to begin construction on the infrastructure late next year. The community is about a 35-minute drive from the Las Vegas Valley. They said they expect the housing market to bounce back and they will be able to offer homes at competitive prices.
The project is the brainchild of Randy and Norbert Aleman, Wes Adam, Larry Miller, Larry and Todd Larkin and The Peccole Family of The Peccole Ranch.
In the meantime, the developer is celebrating the Halloween season with a carved-out corn maze that looks like the world's largest Coca-Cola bottle when viewed from the sky. The corn maze is 460 feet wide by 900 feet long.
For Nevada Day, Oct. 26, there will be a barbecue with a country music band performing from 5 p.m. to midnight. While the state holiday used to fall on Halloween (the date the state joined the union), two years ago the state changed it to the last Friday of October.
Cost is $10 per person. That includes a hamburger or hot dog, corn on the cob, baked potato and a soda. Drinks will be available at the Broken Spoke Saloon. Ears of corn on the cob will be roasted. Cost is $2 an ear.
Admission to the Glendale's haunted cornfield maze is $10 for adults, $8 for children 6 to 11. Kids 5 and younger get in free. There will be different sizes of pumpkins for sale this year for $2 to $3 each. Coca-Cola representatives will be handing out prizes.
