Pulte builds green with partnership

The Southern Nevada Green Building Partnership on Monday announced that the model homes at Pulte Homes' Timber Creek subdivision in northwest Las Vegas are the first homes in Southern Nevada to achieve certification by the program as verifiable "green-built" homes.

The model homes meet the program's requirements for resource, energy and water efficiency and indoor environmental quality that exceed government codes and industry standards for new-home construction.

The Green Building Partnership, a program of the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association and the Green Building Initiative of Portland, Ore., provides the builders participating in the program with the technical expertise to use the program's 10-page green-building requirements developed specifically for conditions in Southern Nevada.

The partnership administers an impartial, third-party inspection and verification that the program requirements have been met in the design and construction of the home; and issues certification that the home has been constructed to the program's green-building requirements.

Timber Creek is situated on Ann Road, just east of Rainbow Boulevard. It will feature 78 homes upon completion. The neighborhood is also participating in the city of Las Vegas Green Building Program and the Water Smart Home program offered by the Southern Nevada Water Authority and the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association.

"One of our core beliefs at Pulte Homes is building science," said Nat Hodgson, vice president of construction for Pulte Homes. "We can adopt new technologies that allow us to build a better home, for our consumers and for the environment. Our team at Pulte is incredibly excited to introduce the first-ever 'green' model homes to the Las Vegas Valley."

Pulte Homes, including its Del Webb brand, ranks as the largest home builder in terms of sales in metropolitan Las Vegas. The company built and sold 4,519 new homes in 2006, according to Home Builders Research of Las Vegas.
